I think its simply an age thing. Certain people of his age in say 1900 would have had the same sentiments about the French nation. Wars do this sort of long lasting damage to people and alter their whole outlook on the world for the rest of their lifetimes.
Its not racism as most of western Europes indiginous population are the same race, it should be considered perhaps as nationalism which although not tarred with the same brush is just as poisonous. Modern Germany should be perhaps held up as an example of how a nation should be run. A well motivated , well educated population with good rewards, rights and freedoms, a very good export led economy and a well conceived democratic system that certainly seems to work. However personally If I come into contact with any German pensioner aged about 85 or older, I wonder to myself "What were you doing about 70 yrs ago". This is probably unfair, but just for that moment I am thinking of "that" time, for people of P Moores age "that" time was lived through and is probably in their thoughts every day. "lest we forget" is quoted at ceremonies and memorials every year, im sure most who lived through the horrors and losses of war just wish they could forget. Afterall its now history, very soon to be outside the living memory of anyone. |

As for my statement, it's probably due to his words (and I quote) "‘We must take care. There may be another war. The Germans will try again, given another chance. A Kraut is a Kraut is a Kraut. And the only good Kraut is a dead Kraut. ‘A German general said to me at the end of the war, “You won two wars. You won’t win the third. And that’s the economic war.” I hope he’s wrong.’ " and "‘I’m no European. Why? Go to Europe and look around. The Germans tried to conquer us. The French betrayed us. The Belgians did very little and the Italians made us our ice cream. ‘Just look at the world now and look at it when we had a bigger say in it. The English are best. Stand up for England!’ " I don't doubt we have similar situations all over the world, and please just take this as an example, but again I was wondering what's the take of people on this, is it a dangerous trend? I mean, imagine the journalist and the editor sitting and discussing about the interview.. should this sort of message be allowed to be published? I'm happy to confront it with other countries, but then for instance in Italy you have politicians being blatantly racist and sexually biased, but there's no effective law on it, so they get away with it. |

As an American I'm firmly aware of our English origins. The breadth and might of the British empire was astounding and brought the light of civilization to most of the world. Hard to believe most don't appreciate that. |

Hardly, its quite simple, while i do think its an interesting question, do you seriously think that in this forum the thread won't go south, or are you just very naive/trolling?

@Sternjaeger II
I'll discuss this with you dude, it takes maturity and there's a distinct lack of that type of behaviour round here. So my opinion is for one, its just the typical Liberal Media machine trying to make a story out of anything, kinda like kids trying to get each other in trouble is how I view the media to be honest The old guy still cant let go of the pain caused by war, many people cant on both sides or, any side for that matter, present or past, war destroys peoples minds too as well as their bodies, and anyone with any direct experience with war maybe will understand why I know this, wether they care to admit it or not. I personally feel sorry for the man, because he will take this pain he has in his heart to his grave, this is in most people rationalised by anger and hatred to the people that were once the enemy, which is what he appears to be doing. The behaviour you see in this man is one of the many effects war has on most human beings, some in the passage of time are able shake away those feelings and be able to forgive not only the enemy, but themselves. But sadly many cannot, many commit suicide, many destroy their own lives and familes because they are trapped with the memories, feelings or even just the mind-set you have to adopt to stay alive and stay rational in those circustances. Our Country at present is creating a whole new generation of young men and women that will carry the scars of war on the inside as well as out, just the same as it has done since time began. A bitter old man says what he thinks, quite understandable with the loss he had and his experiences from the war.
On the other side a plastered woman talking Bull in the subway. So what? Where is the story? A bitter old man hates germans, well every Briton hates us every four years (i just say Football World Championship) every British Yellow press Paper has words like "Blitzkrieg", "Tanks" and so on in its vocabulary when it comes to an Football international UK vs. Germany. Again: so what? You call that racism? That just proves that you don't have the slightest clue what racism is! Look at all those jerks from the BNP, The French Front National etc. etc. and then you have a racist. The most dangerous racists are those guys in 1000 Pound / Euro suits like e.g. Oswald Mosley who talking with their Eton and Cambridge <insert any other Elitist University of your choice here> tongues, these guys talk so eloquently most of us don't even recognize the racism in their words at the first time! I honestly think you use such "stories" just to speak out your really deep reluctance and prejudice against the UK. At least it looks like that. |
