Default Flat Houses

I created a test map on the volcanic island.

I have a spawn area on one of the premade concrete runways next to the shore.

At the edge of the airfield clearing there is a town. Some houses are 3d but most are flat.

I have tried various graphic settings but nothing changes.

Is this a bug?

Try restarting the game to load mew models after you change graphics settings.

In driver settings put mip-map detail level to very high.

I have an ATI 6850 with driver and CCC 11.5.

I did not see mip map anywhere.

4 lines below arrow http://www.tweakguides.com/images/ATICAT_14s.jpg I prefer to use ATI Tray Tools instead of Control Center. Mipmap can be found in 3D Settings there.

Sorry, I have to correct myself after closer look at your picture. First you can have 3D houses missing if you set Number of Houses to less than infinite in Graphics Settings. Even with Infinite settings some houses appear like they are absent due to ground texture errors. Probably some houses where removed for optimisation but the ground texture was not corrected either due to error or with intention to bring these houses back in some time. The map is huge and houses are probably placed automatically.

Please report these locations in the bug-reports threads.

Well, you find these ghost villages all over the channel map. I guess the maps were never really finished, as you find it in all aspects of the program.

Otherwise you would have a lot to report.

Do you have buildings set to Unlimited in video settings?

If yes, the reason is probably they were placed automatically by dev software and then some were removed after the release to optimize for performance. Hopefully they are coming back in the future.

Unlimited and all on max. settings.

Either they were removed for optimization or they were never there, due to to lack of time/will/whatever to finish the maps (that`s what I believe). But anyhow, as long as objects and aircrafts are visible through the ground/clouds/haze and plop in and out of view at a certain distance, the missing houses are the last thing I worry about.

Don't forget the runway lights being visible through the solid parts of your plane...
