That is an excellent tactic. Is it real or fake?

oh its real.... there are tons of hawks where i live and a smaller species of bird is often seen swooping and attacking from above. in glide mode this big birds are fairly slow so to actually land like that bird did ... i am sure happens. while the smaller bird is more maneuverable the big bird can dive away faster and that is what usually happens....but usually not after taking a few good hits. its interesting to watch.

My dad related a few tales of "birds of prey" type engagements.

Once, a blue jay was nesting in the neighbor's tree out back. A big old crow decided to stop by. So, the blue jay decided to let him know it was time to move along by repeatedly using some BnZ tactics. He would fly up, zoom down and peck the crow in the head. The crow squawked about it a couple times trying to let the blue jay know, "I'm bigger than you, and I'm staying right here." But, the blue jay was not deterred and after several more successful attacks, the crow had decided his head had had enough.

Another was some epic dogfight with a bunch of seagulls (mall gulls) over a half a bagel. Apparently a little guy got hold of it by some miracle, but of course, the big one wanted it. So, there was the little guy, holding onto this bagel, probably half his body weight, jinking, diving, looping, whatever to shake the big one off his tail.

I'm sure these lost a lot in the retelling.
