What I hate about IL-2 1946, is that most 90% of the servers have external views on. Thats what I love about sim in BOP, that you have cockpit/virtual cockpit only.

The 1946 servers that do have cockpit only, are a bit too hardcore for me (have icons off, and teams are not red/blue, so you cant really see who is who. and the have the speedbar off, so you need to watch that low detail cockpit airspeed indicator all the time).

anyways, playing some nice sim TD in bop now

Of 89 friends, 17 are online. Prior to IL2:BoP i only had 58 friends. The other 31 i met when IL2 was released, that 31 are the IL2 guys.

Of the 17 players online right now, 7 are the IL2 players i met. Of that 7 only 1 is playing IL2, and that is MorgothNL believe it or not

Of those 7 i've only seen 3 play IL2 in the last week!!

we need to face facts, the majority have gone and are going. I'll stick around but i dont see any epic fights happening anymore

a lot of people left yeah, but hopefully some will return after the patch (looking at the thread about whos not playing and waiting, thats a fair amount of people).

The good thing is you only need 5 other people in the same time zone as you, to have a nice game. Last few days, I've had no problem finding those 5 after 18:00 hours

EDIT:
8 man game within 5 min waiting . (the amount of people playing lately seems more than it used to be imho )

Are you sure about that? When I check hyperlobby it's more like 90% cockpit only with NO external view.

And in the hardcore servers - bind a key to zoom, it helps ID a plane so you don't waste energy diving on teammates planes. Also, tracer colors can be a dead give away for many planes.

I play both server types- one of my computers has Track IR setup and I play full-real on that one, but prefer open cockpit on my PC at my other house because I don't have Track IR on it.

Hmm, i just checked, at the moment 9 servers have more than 15 people, of wich only 2 are with no external views (and its always the same 10 severs with people in it). And one of those 2 is not 4.09 and with an extra mod needed, so that leaves one. <--- that one is a czech server were almost no one uses the 'normal' alphabet. sooo

cockpit only is often there yeah, but not the 'no external views'... wich I hate most (it takes away most of the pilot aspect I think.. )

I haven't given it up yet. I just been busy latey. I still get on for an hour or two a day, with the exception of the past several days. I play allot of training mode due to lack of people on line. This weekend may be tough, because here in Northern America, it is halloween, and many, myself included have been taking kids out trick or treating, or other parties, or family festivities..

I hope to get on a little tommorow (Sunday) to play some..

I dont' play as much as I did when it first come out, but that is to be expected with any game once the new wears off. But, I still enjoy playing it. But like anyone else, wish the patch would come out so I can get over some of the little irritants..

No PC as I use a laptop so it's XBOX only to the bitter end. Ok so far with finding sessions but sometimes the hosts game settings are odd - CTA in a Blizzard at night? Don't like them at all......

On a positive note, If only a few Xbox die hards continue to play:-

a) our names will go to the top of the leader board

b) MP unlocks easily obtained

Well I am happy you guys discover the IL2 PC series, which is really the still the queen of the skies so to say, hehe. You come just a tiny bit late, the "high times" online were in 2003-2007...still a very long time for a game, with every night 1000+ players back then. Today many have wandered off or are waiting for Oleg's Storm of War - which promises to be a absolute blast by the way.

You can't expect such a game as IL-2 to be compared in any way to BoP. Hardware limitations will not allow it to happen.

The original IL-2 series community has had a long and hardcore following for many years. The mission builders and skinners are some of the most dedicated modders in the flight sim genre.
For modding obviously consoles can't compete, or even get onto the playing field, with PCs, but I disagree that consoles are limited by hardware in making good sims. BoP plays fine and the original IL-2 or 1946 could easily be run on a 360 or PS3, the problem seems to me to be more with the imaginations of publishers. It seems like most publishers are PC snobs because they think console players can't understand and won't play complex games made for adults. I think the spectacular success of Fallout 3 gives the lie to that notion. If the publishers had given the BoP team the time and capital they needed this game could have been a knockout, or at least the start of a knockout series and a fully resourced MP component is what would have done it. I blame the publishers.
