Game developers keep trying to convert the popular PC games to a watered down versions for consoles.
You can't expect such a game as IL-2 to be compared in any way to BoP. Hardware limitations will not allow it to happen.

The original IL-2 series community has had a long and hardcore following for many years. The mission builders and skinners are some of the most dedicated modders in the flight sim genre.

Don't worry so much Foz, gamers are a frickled lot. When the patch arrives, players will return.
Games go through cycles, there is always a big hoopla when a new games are released.
Then the very first thing gamers start screaming for is a patch! This has happened in just about every popular game I've ever played.
Players will leave but the gamers who really enjoy the game will be reluctant to let it go.

For modding obviously consoles can't compete, or even get onto the playing field, with PCs, but I disagree that consoles are limited by hardware in making good sims. BoP plays fine and the original IL-2 or 1946 could easily be run on a 360 or PS3, the problem seems to me to be more with the imaginations of publishers. It seems like most publishers are PC snobs because they think console players can't understand and won't play complex games made for adults. I think the spectacular success of Fallout 3 gives the lie to that notion. If the publishers had given the BoP team the time and capital they needed this game could have been a knockout, or at least the start of a knockout series and a fully resourced MP component is what would have done it. I blame the publishers.

My interpretation of 'hardware' means the controller especially. Functions that are great in 1946 like the ability to use a radio can't work out on a console controller. There just aren't enough buttons to include all the features that make 1946 a great sim. I also slightly agree with you about the publishers, though.

yeah okay thats true, but I thought BoP did a pretty good job of translating the experience to the limited inputs of a console. I guess if you really need to regulate the fuel mix you're only going to be satisfied by a PC experience, to me BoP seems to cover the bases. Also like some others I'm a Mac user for work reasons so I'm stuck with the consoles.
