Definitely agree. The controls would be much better off with something like pitch and roll on the left stick, rudder on the triggers and camera on the right stick. The guns would be on A (X on PS3), and throttle on Lb(L1) and Rb(R1).
This is exactly what I was thinking but I wanted to keep the post short. It really sucks you out of the game when you are fighting a battle just as much with un-intuitive controls as the enemy on your tail.
