It's been known/accepted for years now that the ENGINE OVERHEAT prompt is too conservative.

Don't worry about it. Either ignore it or turn off HUD prompts.

im in a building missions writers cramp block, cant focus etc, anything delightfully kinky on the horizon?

Your not the only one. I just can't seem to get in it, I guess probably cause there's no left to fly the missions.
