I spent a good deal of time trying to figure that one out too ...

as B.F. has already stated above ...

you need to pull off the broken handle (in the past), and quickly run back to the door which bursts open & floods the compartment, and use it to secure that door ......
- this will prevent the incident from happening altogether ... hence saving the day ... + your sanity!!!
