PS. Although in the castle sieges the traps often are more useful to the enemy then to me

Also going against Scoffer Imps with lvl 3 trapper often backfires as well. It helps not to cast mass haste until you take the little buggers out though.

In my first game I got trap spell really late, so it was hard to arrange it so that low stack numbers stepped on them. In the new game, I got it early. I am a trapper level three. It is a clear case of be careful what you wish for, because they are often strategically placed to be more of a nuisance and a hindrance than a help to my troops.

It's definitely easier if you get the spell early and start using it aggressively right away. It gets easier after level 1 because the traps placed by the medal effect are usually much stronger than the spell ones (though they tend to spawn in rather useless spots).

I also recommend using elemental effects (poison/fire/frost) as much as possible as the periodic damage can't kill the troop entirely and is useful for softening them up.
Plus you get to work on Battle Alchemy at the same time
