Don't make promisses if you know you wont be able to keep them, it shows contempt for your users.
Your analogy [spelling??] is entertaining, but I don't think Oleg has given any promises for a very long time. He is using phrases like "I hope to start showing updates..." and such. Oleg is holding his cards extremely close to his chest. But he seem to be keeping what he is promising.
