The pirate ghosts always go for the chest even if this means they leave the enemy and return to the other side of the battlefield BUT they always do this for the gold curse pile too although main is still for lvl 1-2 troops and they are level 3. This definitely should be considered a bug, not just bad AI.

That isn't a bug, it's a life lesson for players. Greed can kill.
