how do I return the butterfly to port?

u can trade it with the ship that harboring near the beach right away..if u used the ship to sail back, the ship type will change and the dialog will not respond when u choose to trade the ship..

You'll have to find the ship that was there in the beginning. Or another one of the same type, seems it will only accept that type. You can't get more ships from that port until after completing that quest, so...
