Sorry to hear of this, Drewpee. I ask you to reconsider your decision to go and perhaps take some time off instead as you see fit. The offensive and unfortunate choice of words that were used in debate is not a reflection of the majority here who share your disgust.

Many of us have experienced personal family tragedy in various circumstances to at least realize the anguish an ill-chosen or cruel phrase or expression can cause, although we can't pretend to know the specific challenges that you have faced daily for so many years. However, we do have an awareness -- and this is why I sincerely hope you stay with us as a friend among friends.

As a like-minded group we can perhaps find some common enjoyment and distraction for a few moments in pursuing our mutual interest in shooting each other down and blowing things up! I always look forward to your posts and wish to continue doing so. My Dad was a digger from Wallaroo Mines (RAAF 1942 - 45), so I have some Aussie blood in these Canuck veins. He passed on one trait to me that I treasure: fight hard and passionately, then have a beer and say "Booger them all, they're all great galahs"

So, don't go. Have a beer and booger 'em all!

If it makes a difference Drewpee as the person to use the vulgar language I apologise for causing you offence.

I was just fed up with the unscrupulous behaviour of some member and ended up going down to there level, again I am sorry for causing this.

Speaking for myself only, frequently when I get into a heated discussion I feel strongly about I go into "fire-for-effect" mode. Later on I sometimes grimace and wished I'd picked a different way of saying things. (Of course, other times I find myself wishing I'd expressed myself more.....vehemently! LOL)

Hopefully, as men, we can say "OK" and move on.

I really wonder... you have a child with mental disabilities, haven't you experienced much worse? I only experience that kind of reaction with people who are ashamed and don't have the guts to face, even bad, reactions with a straight face.
If you love your child you'll just ignore stuff like this and shake it off. Sometimes, especially on random forums, people don't even mean it that way.

At least from what I know and from what I just looked up to make sure, retard also means "slow", being a "fool", "twit", "idiot", "git"...
I can't be sure but I'd bet the guy didn't even know about your circumstances at all... so why are you connecting completely random curses to personal matters?

Don't get me wrong, I feel sorry for your child and your family. But I think this decision of yours is... premature and not in touch with the real world at all.

Just to clarify this post Drewpee referred to was in a locked thread for which several people were warned about behaviour. Including the term he referred to.
I also chose to delete the whole thread as it was mostly off topic arguing and abuse which added no value to the community.

It is unfortunate that some people leave their manners behind when it comes to posting on forums and it is a tragedy that he has to deal with the misuse of a term which is heartbreaking for any family to deal with. He has my sympathy. The point is though that there are rules, people break them and we do our best to be fair and catch as much as possible that is in breach of the rules.

We are however not here to censor absolutely everything that someone may find offensive because of some personal circumstance. Especially when the comment was in no way directed at them.

I feel this matter has well and truly been dealt with and if Drewpee had not tried to threaten the moderators then this would have just passed. As it is I think he may have over reacted a little to something which was not directed at him, understandable to some degree.. but taking out your anger on the moderation team for something which was already addressed and then "taking it public" is not the way to do things.
