You can happily have both on your HD. I welcome a quantity of games in this genre, no matter which audience they cater for. With all due respect, CloD's current audience appear as naive as some of the children being flamed here.

Hopefully CloD will continue to improve, with the lost features added back, and new ones included to keep me interested.
I agree clod can be and will be awsome offline one day,so i switch between clod and Rise of flight atm a sim which is nearly perfect, just odd crash now and then.
Still blow the dust off IL2 1946 now and then too.
Theres room for all.

I tried the "beta thing" too.

It's a really cool air combat GAME, with some nice options to add more "simulation".

Great visuals, performance and playability. Easy controls configuration too.

It's more "Battlefield" approach. IL-2 Cliffs Of Dover is another thing.

In terms of presentation is much better than CloD, and it's a "finished" product, even in beta stage. Nice piece of software.

But the "beta thing" is really nice!

I just dug out all my old COD updates going back to the 1st patch.
I ran blackdeath and a quick dog fight on all of them noting particular points and graphical qualities.
Wow it really has come a long way. Graphics, Smoothness and oh... the sounds we now take for granted! I think they've made the right compromises to get to where we are now. Only a few more graphics to add back in and maybe another lighting change as I quite liked the better contrast in the earlier patches but the cartoon colours were'nt quite right, but I think they've probably washed them out too far the other way now. Aircraft visibility was better in the first couple of patches and then it went down hill until the latest patch. I still think they need to work on the washed out colours and general hazy look of the game but it really is miles and miles better than it was at release.

It still has some way to go, but I dont think any other WWII flight games will ever challenge it for the game play vs simulation vs graphics balance it has achieved, even if it didnt get much better than it is now.

I dont want COD to become a kiddies Air-Quake but I would love to get some more players online! Maybe after a few people try out the other new games they will realise just how good COD actually is.

Anyway as Ive said before, I think these other arcade/sim games will have their market and serve it well. For a lot of us hard core simmers though, I just dont see them challenging the depth of COD modelling, that goes for FM, DM and general graphical details. But they will still be wildly successful just the same, and good luck to them. They cater to a different crowd. (PS...and when they get bored of it they can come join us!)

When is this game supposed to be released? Because if it's the same one I am thinking of it seems to have been in beta testing aslong as COD has.

There isnt any other WWII sims in the works that I know of, there is a couple of WWII fighter MMO's one is a little more simish than the other... they are what they are, I will probably have both installed when they are released for some mindless fun, but when I want to fly a WWII sim I will be back in the cockpit of COD.

most probably.. Warthunder.. which is also way better than IL2CoD in almost every aspect excepting realism/flight model and cockpit interiors, which is better in CoD.

kind of a small trade in exchange for having a real feeling of flying in a real war, not in a deserted Europe sky.. I've learned more about energy states and situation awareness in the few beta days I've played than in all the months after IL2CoD release

and.. competition is the mother of progress
