That's interesting, not even the mere mention of the word, "engineer".

A ships engineer is a pretty cool gig though. You get, "down and dirty", with the guts of the ship keeping everything in working order. It requires a wide breadth of knowledge across multiple systems. From electrical, control systems, mechanical equipment, and piping, it's all in there. It's a good deal for those that are mechanically minded, want to go farther than working on cars, and don't mind the fact that you spend most of your time on a ship.

Whenever I go on a live aboard dive cruise I always try and spend some time with the engineer down in the engine room. It's always a load of fun. Those big diesels (big for me, not compared to a super tanker or container ship!!) are pretty cool.

If I ever win the lottery I'm going to nab a 60' - 100' yacht for myself and get a captain's certificate so I can hit the open seas whenever and wherever I want!
