It is a bit buggy and the interface is clunky, but a hell of a lot of fun.

according to my steam its rapidly catching up with my Clod hours.....

In Arma2 incl DayZ and i44 etc etc if you get the black screen but the game is still running ie you can still hear the game you need to flush the vid memory.

To do this its

1, press left shift and minus on the keypad.

2,then type this..... flush

3, game should resume after a few moments.

Consider reducing your video settings if this happens regularly.

However try not to alt tab out of the game as this seems to cause this problem to.

Its an Arma thing.

Oh and try running the game at different resolution to your desktop.
