Default Can't Even Play

This patch has ruined my ability to play this game. It will not even start, not even vanilla. I have re installed twice and verified the game cache an innumerable amount of times. Please, help me. How do I fix this?

I had to backup and then delete my conf.ini and confuser.ini files from My Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\ to get the older game versions to work again. Try that as well as deleting the cache content.

As for performance, blackdeath is lower AVG and higher Max and Min.

I redid back to back testing and here's the results at Max settings 1920x1080 4xAA.
(only 1 GPU operating as SLI is no good)

v1.05.15950 - (Last official patch)

AVG FPS 52 MAX 144 MIN 6

DX10 Alpha Patch (Prior alpha with fix)

AVG FPS 53 MAX 124 MIN 4

v.1.07.18301 - (Current beta patch)

AVG FPS 40 MAX 166 MIN 7

So clearly avg is down a lot while max and min are up.
Having said that, the game does look to be a bit smoother (was already very smooth for me though) but it's certainly a lot lower FPS in the external shots, especially on Blackdeath. The other tracks appear to be better however so its a mixed bag. Maybe it will be better from within the cockpit.

I noticed shadow popup from the trees in this patch compared to the last official and its a bit annoying!

PS if you want to go between versions keep a backup of your parts folder and rename it to keep a copy of each version.
You will also need to delete cache, and conf.ini and confuser.ini as I mentioned above as they vary from version to version slightly in someway. Remember to back your ini's up!

How did you install the patch? What programme did you use to extract the 'parts' folder?

I can't believe everyone is gushing about the tracers. They look like something out of a Sega Genesis game. Every bullet is a tracer, they are way too white and they maintain formation for way too long. It looks nothing like guncam footage in history, and nothing like tracer rounds today.

While I agree that the actual look/behavior of the tracers leave much to be desired, the improvement in the view range, performance and ricochet of the tracers are a nice leap in the right direction .

It's recommended to follow these steps as posted by Blackdog_kt (Sorry about that!),

1) Verify integrity of local files (to get back to last official version)

2) Go to your documents\1c softclub\IL-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder and delete the cache folder. (the game will rebuild it based on the new version next time you run the sim).

3) Extract the beta patch in the game folder (c:\whatever_you_named_it\steam\steamapps\common\I L-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover) and let it overwrite anything it wants to overwrite

4) Run the sim one to force it to rebuild the cache.

5) Start a free flight quick mission to force it to add anything else it might need in the cache.

6) Exit the sim.

7) Restart the sim.

I've got big stutters every so often and consistent mico stutters every second or so flying close to the ground and looking out the window. In fact I've never really had problems with stutters like I do with this patch.

I like the extra range on the tracers but maybe too many bullets ricochet in too uniform a way. looks good but.

As someone who unistalled the game a long time ago in the hope it would get better i have recently installed again and after this latest patch it flies well for me with an average of 45fps with a max of 60fps with most settings on the highest. I flew over an hour last night in two servers with no crashes and only microstutters on a couple of occasions, once when i fired the guns and once as i dropped down to land, but it flew smoothly even when alongside other players. The biggest frame hit is mirrors as usual, i gain 10fps by switching the mirror off.

Installation of the new patch was a little problematic, i backed up the bob and core files then installed the contents of the new ones and the game would not start, a brief flash of gunsight then nothing, so verified in Steam then deleted the cache installed again and it worked fine. So its a thumbs up from me.

I managed to fly for approx 1.5 on the ATAG server without a CTD or lock up of any kind. this for me, was unheard of with the earlier patches. I would always have to leave and re-enter the sever at the end of each mission.

I had some stuttering at low level which I could deal with and got shot down twice and didn't know anything about it because I had no huge lagging like before when any enemy A/C were close by.

So that in itself is a step forward.
