Another video I found :

In the video you can see blur effect (because the pilot is tired???)

at 5:55 3D smoke
at 6:42 3D crater model

Bonus video : Submarine simulation in Il2 1946

But you need OpenGl water=2 and higher what I don't have

I don't know. If they do that, it can be a great update

I'm wary of most mods, but I gotta admit, these smoke effects are mighty impressive. What's the cost in performance?

The blur in the first video is a post process cinematic effect that is over done and utterly unnecessary. Any pilot that had vision that blurry would have been pulled from active duty.

As to the submarine sequence...

Absurd. No submarine that was attacking an enemy task force would be actively pinging its sonar. It would give away their presence to the enemy escorts.

Someone has seen too many Hollywood movies about the war and thinks that's how a simulator should be.

It is NOT the pinging sound of the submarine's sonar. It is ASDIC, probably from an escorting destroyer, in sweep scan modus. Therefore the multiple pings in regular interval. It is per se not unrealistic, though IRL no submarine kaleun would stay in the periscope depth when ASDIC was around, let alone raising his periscope. But I guess the most daring (and foolish) one would.

I think that might only be just a video someone threw together, with periscope and water splash "filters" added for effect.
