Windows 32 bit can not access the full 4 GB of memory(somewhere around 3.2).
Going to Windows 64 bit allows you to access the full 4 GB and beyond. Remember you processor has to support 64 bit for it to work properly. There is out on the web a little program that does allow a 32 bit exe to run as a 64 bit exe.I am sorry but I do not recall the name or a link. You did not mention what OS you have now but going to W7 also allows you to run DX10,which the game supports.
