I always throttle back and reduce revs in a dive to avoid over-revving the engine. Perhaps they have modelled over-revving and you exceeded the max? See attached. Although The Spitfire Pilots Notes are for the Spitfire I it covers Merlin II and Merlin III engines and the other attachment is the limitations for the Spitfire IIa with Merlin XII. Note what these say about the dive rpm limitations.
