Why do you have to remap all controls?

Unless you're clever and saved the controls to specific files (i.e. I have a specific control file for flying the Bf 109 and one for the Ju 87), copied those to another folder and then reinalled it.

Controls are stored in confUser.ini IIRC but I save them as a different file for backup. It is also possible to back up the whole Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder before reinstall.

Farber: Can you please provide an md5 or sha1 checksum for the archive you downloaded?

Lots of tools to do it are available on the net. Microsoft made one called FCIV: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290 A checksum is like a digital fingerprint. To put it simply: If two files are identical, they will have the same checksum. If they are not identical, they will not have the same checksum.

If 1C (or someone with a known-to-be-working copy) supplies a checksum of the patch, then you can check the file that you download to see if it has the same checksum: an easy way to tell if your file is corrupted or not.

My settings are fine, but somehow the game forgets about the chat-window every time I start the game. It always reverts to the standard position, so I always have to drag it to the top left corner and make it a little smaller as I want it.

Any ideas?
