Intel today has allowed stores to release to the public, thier newest chip, codenamed IVy Bridge. The Ivy Bridge for those who dont know, is a die shrink of the extremely succesfull SandyBridge architechture. Although Ivy bridge does nto offfer much improvement over the current SandyBridge chips it does have some cool features. Intel HD 4000 gfx. Alothugh many people argue that Intel HD xxxx gfx are rubbish i see that its a step in the right direction of making more efficient systems and better intergrated gfx. Also, the new 22nm process has been able to reduce the TDP wattage from 95W in the current 2600k to 77W in the new 3770K, more power for a gfx card

my phone has a faster processor than the computer i had 8 years ago, and more memory storage than the one i used at uni 10ish years ago.
if i actually stop to think about it the pace of progress is kind of staggering.

They say technological advancements only progress in times of war, and seeing how the "western allies" have been at war for somin like the past 20 years it no surprise that we have had leaps in technology over that period of time. I know this is stupid but i can remeber playing Halo Combat Evolved and thinking that was so realistic and had the best gfx ever, but now we have games like Crysis and Crysis 2 and dare I say BF3 (even though i dont like the Frostbite 2 engine). It like you said, "staggering"

I was waiting for ivybridge, and probably a 3570k, but, given the extra heat of the new chip when overclocking, I think I might just pick up a cheaper 2500k and a z77 board now.
I already have 8Gb of ddr3 ram sitting here doing nothing! |

Ivy Bridge is Cold Turkey IMHO, you are better off with Sandy Bridge from what I've seen of the way Ivy's heat up as the clocks go up, despite their die size. I've been watching this for a while and have decided for Intel 2011 and pushed the boat out for Intel i7-E 3960X six core on an Asus X79 Rampage Extreme IV ... my new GTX 680 will like its PCI-e 3.0 bandwidth too. The most expensive processor I've ever bought, but you only live once. |
