Interesting. I have the trims controls assigned to two analogue lever axis on my CH Quadrant because of their smoothness, but I don't use them for aiming. Willhave to experiment with that.
However, I was initially unhappy with my Warthog stick because I found it too stiff and too sensitive for fine aiming. From a Youtube how-to clip I removed the heavy mainspring completely and repositioned the four small secondary springs which looked after the stiffness. Playing with the X- and Y- response S- curves handled the sensitivity problem, yet still allowed full throw of the controls when needed.

To be fair the reason I know this is because they were public about it on their webste with tutorials on how to do it. My point is the level of seriousness of it all - It's almost like it's real, whereas I see gaming as entertainment.
Fact remains that if a pilot wanted to score big, he'd fly eastern front |

There's lots of people in the West that also mod their sticks, check any of several dozen Youtube videos on how to do it. It's all in how serious you are, and how much quality you want out of your gear.
