I have been running the "perfect" landscape setting on my ATI cards for years.

Who told you that ATI can't run IL2 on perfect settings?

However, if you check this forum and the official on UBI, you'll see that you get some problems with nVidia (flickering textures, invisible planeparts, water-rendering problems, etc).

Nobody is perfect, neither are nVidia or ATI.

I'd say lucky you - or you simply didn't care?

Check out this 30-pager about problems with nVidia and IL2:

If you think I am an ATI-Fanboy, I should tell you, that I use a 8800GTS, which works with an nVidia-Chip and I love it, because it is fast, but I hate it, because image quality is pretty low. I don't live in a world of black and white and there is no good and bad company or product. They all have certain pro's and con's.

And you think if somebody provided them a computer with an xy-card that makes it a standard-video-card for IL2?

My guess is and I also remember that from the early days, that IL2 was shown on different cards to assure customers that there is no compatibility problem. I'm sorry that doesn't help you either, as from your initial question and the last post I take it, you simply want to get a confirmation to buy nVidia.
Sorry I can't give that so easy, but if you say you got problems with your ATI, maybe you should rather post them and we can try to help you, instead of investing money in new hardware and finding out that nVidia is not the non-plus-ultra either?

If your asking which brand was used in the development of IL-2 1946 I think it would be safe to say both. The setup program has optimisations for both brands and also Direct X and OpenGL. Perfect settings can only be used with OpenGL.

I have used both nVidia and ATI for this sim over the last 5 years. My personal preference is ATI for the IQ and currently have the ATI HD3870.

You can run the highest video settings on a lower resolution (eg 1024x76 with something as old as a nVidia 6600GT with 128MB of RAM, so i doubt any of the newer video cards will have any trouble running it at much higher resolutions.

So, it should be a matter of personal preference
