I was in the hospital for about two weeks before I was better again. When I finally got out, I was told by my squadron leader that I had been transferred to the Stuka squadron on a nearby airfield. When I arrived there, the squadron was having dinner. One brave pilot, upon my arrival, stood up and said "Welcome commander, I hope you enjoy your time here." I at once thought about why was I their commander. It turned out my little "stunt" had caused me to get leadership of the squadron.
The next morning I woke up early to plan a strike on some British Tankers. I called in to the commander of my former squadron residence and ask him to see if he could offer escort. He at once agreed to such and I then got my squadron up for the briefing. I had planned out the mission such that we would circle up to about 3500 meters and our fighters would escort at 4000 meters. Pretty quickly we all were in the air and then we started our slow pace to the the needed height. When then soon headed off towards our target. After making it about halfway across the channel, we then were promptly attacked by some hurricanes. Our kind escort took care of them but we lost two Stukas in the process. Nothing more eventful occured until the first flak burst appeared, scaring the daylights out of my gunner. As we approached on our targets we split off, each of us targeting an individual ship. Our success that day was about 50% accuracy and I scored a direct hit on one of the tankers that made it nearly go flying. Our gaggle of aircraft then began our trip home. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a flight of Spitfires approaching on us, growing increasingly larger by the second. To be continued... Please note that all of my stories are from missions that I have flown online but some things are changed (Like the size of the flights) but it is only done so to improve the story's quality and some stories were from multiple flights (You'll better understand it in part 2 of this story) |

ok i think i have a story.....i flew a sortie this week on atag in the evening at around 6pm.
i think there were about 30 people online.i fired up my 109 at coquelle and recoginzed already on the ground, that flak puffs above me were slowly making their path towards the channel.so i took a more closer look into the bright blue sky and sighted a formation of wellingtons heading for home. so i gave full throttle with a cold engine, and my 109 elevated quickly.soon i reached best climbing speed, so i trimmed out my crate and made a slow turn into the direction of the enemy.as i reached the same altitude as the bombers, i noticed another contact, which was certainly 1k above me and the wellingtons.as i was still near the coastline of france, i assumed it to be one of ours, though i had a strange feeling, when i saw the small dot not engaging the bombers, but turning away dissapearing in the dust.so i engaged the bombers with a mixed feeling.my cannons did well, and i got two of them down in one approach.but while climbing away, to come back again, i could almost smell that i wasnt alone up there.though i observed my six every few seconds, i didnt see the hurri which eventually got a few bullets on both my ailerons.though i reacted immediately and pushed the stick hard to dive away, his shots were enough to make my ailerons completely useless.though i didnt notice that yet, cause i was watching the hurri following the dive.that was what i was hoping to see.as he half rolled, i pulled the stick slightly, to level out again, and go into a shallow climb with WEP enabled. i was still watching my six to look if he was still closing up on me, or if my manouver did its trick.i was a bit reliefed as i saw the hurri completing another half roll to follow my climb, but now a good hundred meters below me.now i could check my gauges.nothing seemed to be damaged and i didnt lose any liquid either. but the ailerons looked like swiss cheese now.so i tried to make a turn and noticed, that the stick was stuck. fortunately my rudder was still working, and thx to katharina my girlfriend, my 109 now had ch rudder pedals! normally without ailerons and with the hatswitch of my fighterstick controlling the rudder, i would have tried to disengage completely and look for the next safe airfield. but with the new rudder pedals, i decided to give it a try, and looked for revenge. i eventually gained e advantage to the hurri, and then boomed and zoomed it.the fight certainly lasted 15minutes, because he broke away several times, and as my roll rate was non existent anymore, i couldnt follow him.but i tried to be patient and just maintain e advantage.with every attak i only got a few,if any bullets on him, and it didnt seem to make any serious damage.but eventually with my last bullets remaining in the belts i dived on him again for the last time.i knew that this would be my last approach, so i tried this time to aim well.i have never been a good shot neither in 1946 nor in clod. i watched the hurri slowly turning left as i closed up.i just hoped that he would tighten his left turn instead of breaking to the right. so i gave fully left rudder and pushed negative g to get into a lead shot.and this time it really came altogether.i somehow could feel the speed of my bullets and the travel distance to the target, and therefore the one and only right moment to pull the trigger. the cannon shells impacted on his left wing and the engine.i was somehow astouned, as i watched the wing breaking off the fuselage.only had that once offline i think with the e3. it was really satisfying when i watched the hurri tumbling down in flames and only one wing left from 3k straight into the channel in front of the french coast. i finished my sortie with a smooth landing. thx katharina for the rudder pedals,...i love you. S!
David..your girlfriend is a keeper ![]() But the hard part was to get to France as I was far from clear waters with one engine dead and other damage. So shut down damaged engine and trimmed plane for single engine flying just above the waves. I saw some dots above me and no doubt were they the other preying RAF fighters my pursuer must have vectored in. But I had made a risky move and did not head straight to France. I took a bit more southern route and limped back to base. Felt like an achievement! Last edited by Flanker35M; 02-19-2012 at 02:58 PM. |
