NOOB Help with Plot and BSM

Can you give me some hints on what quests to seek out early in the game or how to cheaply recruit more mercs ? I haven't visited the Rebels yet, but I see their camp on the map.

I only have Paquito in my party and 8K currency.

Also, is there a a specific trader that sells bandages or medkits ?

EDIT I just completed Banditos and Brothers quest. At the end of the battle, it asked me if I wanted to Advance the Game to Next Level. What does that mean ?
