In all seriousness? I think Maddox Games took a bigger bite then they could chew with CoD, at least within the time frame they had available. I do not think putting all the blame at UBIs feet is the whole story, though Steam, with it's rather limited multiplayer optionms for the Sim, may have not been the best idea.
However, gut feeling says there went a lot wrong with project management and the whole endevaour kinda grew over their heads. I mean, look at Cod and all the features in there, it's mind boggling. They listened to the community and wanted to fullfill all wishes without the manpower and financal backing required for that. The result is a game with lots of half workig stuff instead of a few propperly working new features. The damage modeling alone must have eaten huge ressources.

On the upside, development goes on, and if they manage to safe the new IL2 series over the BoM sequel, then we are in for a real treat for the next decade to come.
