Once you have the map, in conversation with the Dwarven King Digor, Elf Queen Violetta, the Human King Mark, and Master Trigius at the Magic Academy you'll have the option to offer the map for sale to one of them.
The rewards are (spoilers!):
Dwarf King: Mithril Shield +8 Defense and -20% Leadership requirements of Dwarves.
Elf Queen: 10 of each type of Rune (by far the best offer of the four).
King Mark: Some ridiculously low amount of gold, like 50,000, I think.
Master Trigius: Some random high powered magic scrolls that you can probably find elsewhere.
