Good story, Like it said its all about the soil conditions.

I'm not sure if it was in firing condition but it was intact except for the wood. A couple of guys were talking about their trip along the Kokoda track in New Guinea two years back.

If I remember the story correctly one guy walked a couple of yards off the track to answer the call of nature and found a weapons pit and the Bren Gun that was in it. They grabbed it and carried all the way to the end.

Last I heard they were trying to find Australian Army unit to act as a sponsor to help them get it returned to Australia and placed into a military museum.
