Don't get me wrong, I really want this to succeed and wish them well, but there are many critics who are happy with less of a sim, more of a game. They're probably the majority of buyers.

Sometimes the market favours the lowest-common-denominator. I just hope Ilya and co are getting enough money in from Russian sales to sort this sim out. Once they do it will be truly great.

+1. Agree strongly.

I'm as hardcore for realism as it gets. I well appreciate the OP's enthusiasm for all the detailed aspects of this sim because I share that enthusiasm. But to your point, there's a huge potential in attracting the "crank 'n bank" crowd who love the eye candy but are more interested in gameplay (read: instant gratification).

I see nothing wrong with that, to the contrary that's very, very good in bringing more players into the fold and - importantly - more money in sales. Although I personally don't have a need to acquire rank, medals, or points in a campaign.....there are many who do appreciate these methods of measuring success. It's all good. We need a number of different Campaigns for each side that would appeal to different styles of play. Even a silly one with the Spitfire girl or a challenge to fly under a bridge would have an appeal to certain players -- as long as there also are Campaigns that truly are Battle of Britain authentic.
