OAKLAND (KCBS) – One of Oakland’s landmark buildings was spared from major damage during the violence that followed Wednesday’s Occupy Oakland general strike, thanks to a man sentry who stood guard in the lobby.

Prominent real estate developer Phil Tagami brought a shotgun to the ground floor of his offices in the historic Rotunda Building Wednesday night in order to ward off protesters who were trying to force their way inside. It worked.

Tagami acknowledges receiving some hate e-mail, but Twitter comments seems to be filled with praise for Tagami. He’s become something of a folk hero overnight, with some suggesting a run for mayor.

I agree, different country, but same kind of riots of the UK.

One armed man kept a bunch of scumbags well away of his property, while here we sat down and said "oh well, insurances will pay for it"..

apart for the idiotic idea of insurances paying for it (because, let's face it, their premiums in the UK have raised, since we ALL have to pay more via car, home and other insurances), tell me how a money refund can fix this

There's no point in arguing about this anymore, truth is that most men here have been deprived of their sense of pride and courage to defend things they care for, delegating such responsibilities to others..

I watch trends on Amazon and saw that baseball bats made of aluminum and wood and police batons went to top spot in the UK. One bat had its sales jump 52,000% in one day when the riots started over there.
