Just in case you did not find it yet, we did release a hot fix for the explosion issue yesterday. It *can be found here:

Still checking the bail out thing. It was most likely caused by the same broken particle effects as the explosion, but if you encounter it again, please let us know!

Don't blame you, frequently I do, too. I was pleasantly shocked when I received that email from Ilya himself. It's too bad the promise of a Community Manager never came through -- he/she could've done a lot of good on these forums plus received a lot of detailed useful feedback on the game itself.
