Yep, try the 96.98 WHQL series get them here http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1519

just checked my install and I am currently running the 93.71 WHQL get them here http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1509

Then download IL-2 Stab or IL-2 Manager both of these give you a nice interface to tweak the config.ini file.

If you are into tuning the Nividia Control Panel then Ntune and nHancer maybe two apps (free) that sure add a lot of additional tweaking ability to the now rather limited Nvidia CP. You can google those two apps and get the direct link to their HP.

Oh my card is an BFG 7950 GT OC. You will find less problems with these drivers and your card. I had a heck of time finding an AGP card for my old non-gaming computer at home...did you get yours on Ebay?

I think you have selected the wrong card in il2Setup before you re-started il2setup again and selected "Custom".
you have

HardwareShaders=0

in your [Render_OpenGL] section.

That should be HardwareShaders=1

DO NOT use the newer nV drivers they are full of bugs. check at www.guru3d.com to find the 96.89 driverr and install that AFTER uninstalling your current driver.

Run il2setup select the nVidia 6600 and OpenGL - run the game

If you have the game running (try play a track) you're ready for step 2:

Run il2setup, select "Custom" and the options you want and your card supports.

Run the game again and see if it improved things

Once you have this working you can dive into conf.ini and change settings like water= forest= sky= etc etc etc
