Launcher has stopped working?

Friend of mine had a similar problem on Vista , so we went through clearing every single file from hard drive, reinstalling visual basic and . Net , then verification of files through steam library - what we find out is that every verification brought diffrient results. Anyway he can play now single player but he can't connect to some servers simply getting launcher.exe crash. Have no clue what may cause this problems. However I would recomend anyone having issues with launcher.exe problems one thing: try to reinstall steam it self or move it from system partition if it's installed there, maybe that will help ... good luck
