HE round should be better against anything save the pilot cabin of Hs-129. During the Slovak Uprising, Russian mechanics loaded AP only into La-5FNs flown by Czechoslovak pilots and they were surprised why none of the German airplanes hit during the attack on airfield burned. But desynchronization should be OK, something similar was done for Brownings.
