Well, thanks for sharing! I've been playing around with editing, having awakened my inner hacker, and it seems pretty easy to use the Scanner's report to edit a save file. It appears that everything is open to change quite easily, including character skills, runes, spellbook, army, etc.--though I'm only interested in the items/units/spells for the sake of saving my time from uncountable game restarts until I got an ideal game from the Scanner. I'm not interested in completely breaking the balance of the game and removing all challenge. Now, even an all-Orc army is possible from the beginning.
It stinks that lots of the items, units, and spells have different names in the save file than in the report, but they can all be deduced easily enough with some time and effort. Another small obstacle is finding specific buildings in the save file, since they aren't named clearly (or at all). I'll make it a project to get a list than equates the two files to make editing easier. And I may as well share it on the forums if fellow editors come along! The starting castle in Greenwort (Castle Kronberg) and other dwellings that change inventories and troops seem to be a bit trickier to edit than other places since they have extra checks for quest completions, title promotions, and another layer for checking the troops on top of that to set the items and spells currently available, but it all seems open to my level of understanding to completely tailor a game to oneself. Editing Kronberg in the middle of a game seems to be a bit above my head right now, since it seems that the game may only check for promotion at the time it is bestowed, and not again until the next one. (Or I'm just doing something wrong. Too many variables right now.) But I've succeeded in changing around simpler locations already. All in due time! Strangely, I can't find any trace of Noric in the save file (he's currently giving me the Cyclops Eye, but there's no cyclop_eye in my save file. Since the Scanner can't foretell past his level 1 item, I'm wondering if it's even possible to find. I guess it doesn't matter to me now, though! It sure will be nice to reduce on my racial playthroughs to deposit occasional troops that I'm using at each continent! Thanks again! I wouldn't have thought to look in the AP forums for the editor! Edit: I tried fighting Noric on every level from level 4 up to 29, and he changed the item he dropped every level or every few levels, cycling between the cyclops eye, the scroll case, the baton, and finally settling on the fire necklace for the final five levels. All I can say in hindsight is, if you use the Scanner, don't count on him to drop what he says he will! I never saw the Intellect Ring in all the test battles. At what levels did he drop the Baton for you ? I really don't feel like killing him umpteen times to find out myself ^^

Hmm. Crap. I don't remember the specific levels, but it was something like every third or fourth level, and he stopped dropping it before the 20s, I think. I also have suspicions that what set of items he can drop changes every game or might (doubtful?) drop based on your class.
I was getting regalia every time with my current Warrior and some that were never presented to the Paladin: Heroism Banner; but regalia and artifacts with my Paladin in this thread. I know he dropped the baton on level 9 for me currently. I got tired of killing him too, (only takes 10 minutes or so depending on where you are when you level up, but still out of the way) and snatched the baton this time. |

Hey, can you help me edit my game ? I found out that the Necromancer's Tower that has my Telescopic Sight is the one that only lets you trade after you finished his quest to bring him Red Dragon Eggs and by all means, they're impossible to get without fighting the Dragon troops there and the place is too crowded even bother kiting 2 or 3 troops at the same time.
I tried those codes and it only works on a few and sadly also: item telescopic_sight doesn't give me the item. The chatbox opens, I type it and nothing is in my inventory or equipment slot. Can you check if it works for you and if not, do you know what the name of the code is that the item relates to ? I'm too far advanced in the game to just crop it now... €dit: seems like there was a problem with the first slot in the inventory. I had to remove Fandor's Map from the first position of the inventory, close the hero screen and open it again and there it was. I decided not to delete my post in case someone runs into the same problem with a few items. I noticed it does the same thing for other items, too. Last edited by Vulture; 09-27-2011 at 05:09 AM. |

Just a moment. The code works for me, depositing the sight in my inventory. I'll write up a short walkthrough of editing.

Tell me the name of an item for sale in your game that you haven't bought, (and obviously at a store you have access to). I'll need that to describe the process precisely.

Here is how to edit a save file. Download the KB_DB_Edit application to edit: http://kingsbounty.ru/mods/tools/KB_...T_0.75_eng.zip
. It's a little tricky the first few times. First, just use the Scanner on a save file as usual with all boxes checked except for "In-depth decompilation". Then open the file savedata.txt that the Scanner generates, and do a search for some item you haven’t bought during the game (this is the only way I know how to edit something in. I don’t know the mechanics of creating an item for sale at a place that has no items for sale.) This is a little tricky to do, as the list of the English items are usually not the same in the game as in the code. I have written out by hand, but not typed out what all the item codes actually refer to in English as posted above by The Wealthy Aardvark. For instance: big_shield is the Large Shield. In most cases, you can probably figure out which item in TWA’s list the item is. To make it quicker, you could just post an item for sale in your game and I’ll tell you what the corresponding code is. Anyway, unless there’s more than one of what item you’re searching to replace in your game, it’s quite easy to change. Each item is listed in two places in savedata.txt. You want the first time it is listed. Don’t change the second time it’s listed, as I don’t think that does anything. When you’ve found that first instance, simply replace the item with telescopic_sight, and save the savedata.txt. Then open the KB_DB_EDIT_0.75_eng application, hit the "Compile" button, then select "File Compilation", then Next, select the edited savedata.txt file and save is as "savedata" (as a file without an extension). If you get an unintelligible error, then you typed something wrong (or in the wrong place, but it’s actually pretty hard to corrupt a file). Next, you must calculate the checksum of the new file, or the game will consider the edited save corrupt and will not load it. So start the KBScanner, select "Calculate CRC" and open the "savedata" file (the one without an extension that you just created with the editor). The file savecrc will appear in the same folder as your savedata file you just created and the rest of the report you first generated. Now everything is set for the update of the saved game. Backup the *.sav file you created the Scanner report from. Then, open the *.sav file with WinZip or WinRar and delete the files "savedata" and "savecrc" and replace them with the ones you created via the editor. That should get you the desired result. If you have any problems, just let me know, like what the name of an object you're looking to change. It’s easy to get lost in the 3000+ pages of a savedata.txt report, especially when there’s more than one of the object you’re trying to change, or if you don't know what the item is that you're trying to change. Edit: The second time an object is listed will be obviously the wrong place to change the game, as it is listed in one long list with every object that is in your game. You want the first time, as that is the shop/castle it is actually present at. I've checked all the codes during my testing, and they all worked for me. It might be that the items are named differently if you have a different version of the game/region where you downloaded it. I don't know. I got mine from Amazon.com in the US. If this editing process doesn't work for you, you still might be able to figure out what the telescopic sight's code referent is, but it will involve opening the zip file of your ses.kfs file, and combing through items.txt until you find something that looks like the sight to you. If you find it there, then you have the cheat code name of what you're looking for: Shift+~ item X. Last edited by Helios; 09-27-2011 at 05:41 AM. |
