My main problem with steam games is automatic updates.
Unless you keep an earlier back up copy before each update you can never roll back to a previous version. This may not matter to a lot of people but it can be really annoying if you like to apply mods to improve a game and then the steam updates are applied and you find the mods are incompatable with newer versions. Sometimes a game comes out, brilliant mods are created, some mods re adjusted for the first couple of patches but then for example after V1.4 will no longer work. If you happen to buy a steam game say six months after release you will only ever get the latest current verion, say V1.7 and all the good mods only work up to V1.4 Also as some people have said with Clod, the automatic new patch has had negative effects on their game that cannot be undone. Even if you have the Dvd version of V1.0 Steam will update it on activation. I liked the old days when you downloaded the patches and applied whatever version you wanted and worked best.
