The clouds are the same, they are just used by the more complex weather engine, that can make them bigger and you can place them at more varied altitudes. Sometimes the results are much better than stock clouds, but the engine is just too buggy right now.
Here is some testing i did.

Dynamic weather is not complete. If you look closely, these are still the same cotton-ball clouds models.

Also some clouds are cut in half.

But the more noticable feature is the sun-lit border 2D clouds in the distance! Those look epic Imagine if we had sunrays later on, that would look sweet Or rain showers that are local... So some parts of the game is sunlit, whilst others are rainy

Thanks JAWS. Interesting to see the possibilities. Hopefully the revamped clouds and dynamic weather can be implemented soon.

re the clouds in the recent patch: I think Luthier commented that the clouds with flat bottoms would make a reappearance.... NOT that new clouds would be implemented yet.

Yeh, thinking about it I think he actually said that the distant flat clouds with the pretty outlines would be implemented.

My word! Or other more anglo-saxon expletives.

When they get this right, plus the new water and whatever else is in the pipeline it's going to blow everything else out of the sky.

And when they do, then I'll buy some new hardware.

Oops! did I just say something positive?

I said the same thing in the above post. The clouds are the same, they are just used different.

You can be positive about the game and still be able to criticize the faults, its called sound judgement where I come from. There are a lot of "when" in your post though.
