thats a shame.... in the old il2 you could at least ask for permission to land, and even ask for a vector to home base!

As of right now it seems that you have to fly back to base and circle around until all your wingmen have landed before being called in to land... Also with this new patch they removed completely the orders to attack enemy planes (even though the commands didnt work when you tried using them)

this game still needs patching in that department

Radio commands are being redone according to the previous developer update. I guess they eliminated the ones that haven't been fixed yet from the menu to cut down on the amount of confusion, eg "if i tell my flight to change formation they do it, but if i tell them to attack a specific target they don't, what's happening?"

In other words, i'm keeping my fingers crossed the rest of them will be added in the next patch.

As for landing, if the airfield is equipped with an airfield AI module (this is done in the FMB, in other words the campaign maker must have included this feature when building the missions for it to work) it will automatically start handing out landing clearances to your flight once you overfly it. It will also mark the active runway and direction with a "T" marker as the touchdown point, correctly taking into account the current wind conditions.

Your wingman will stay with you and fly low and slow while you land (and often stall and crash into you), so it's a good idea to engage autopilot and time compression until it's his turn to break off for his approach or you see the autopilot placing your own aircraft in the landing sequence. At that time you can go back to normal time, disengage autopilot and land as usual.

It's my fault the commands have been disabled. Sorry! Remember this?

Many thanks to all, I finally got round to installing the campaign. Enjoying it very much even though I have only completed the first few missions.

I am doing a mission where you have to attack waves of JU88s over Dunkirk....I was chasing the first wave (well, the first wave that I saw anyway) and as I was firing at them, the entire squadron just disappeared! literally, disappeared into thin air...I turned back toward the town and saw another group of 88s approaching...got into firing position, shot one enough that its wing ripped off and as it was plummeting to earth,it and its entire squadron of 88s vanished again! ... at the end of mission I got no kills credited so it did not register that I had ripped a bombers wing off.

Bug in the mission, or bug in the game? .. It was as if the planes "de-spawned".

That's by mission design, bombers disappear after they bombed Dunkirk, this is to avoid overburdening the game with returning bombers and still get many waves of them.
In the mission description, this is why you are told to kill bombers before the bomb dunkirk.
Explained on Sukhoi.ru by Vetochka, who did the campaign.

ok, thanks for the reply.

They don't have much time after they drop their bombs do they? LOL...bit of an immersion killer, but so be it. Enjoying the campaign anyway
