Most plausible guess I've heard yet

I completely lost sound when playing online (X-Fi Gamer with latest drivers). I think its because this is unfinished sim.

Agreed. If there wasn't a VAC ban looming then a decent experiment would be to kegtys mod out the communication sound files (or make them tiny) and that way it might not choke anymore.

I own COD on two different steam accounts, so might have to try this online anyway. In some ways if Luthier just gave a quick heads up of 'you will not get banned, or if you do it will be reversed' then we could go hog-wild on trying to find a make-shift solution...

Don't see much specs from ppl that complain about the bug though.
1. Drivers versions would be a start.
2. I presume most of you have multi core cpu's , What is the AffinityMask of the ppl with the problem. Did you try different Mask values (ie leaving one core for windows vs taking all the Cores vs taking only 1 core )
3. 64bit vs 32 bit ?
4. Chipset of the audio card ( It might be diff card manufacturer , but the might use the same audio chipset) .

From steam menu's you can get a System spec (think it is in the settings menu).

Paste the output of that( it lists some of the driver versions etc.. )
Personally I dont suffer from the sound problem. Win 7 64 , on a Mac Pro.

Good suggestions overall, just let me make a slight correction: the process affinity mask setting is now obsolete and has been deleted from the the new version of the conf.ini file.
