A rather big percentage of engagements that day were like that, a couple of kills and probables/damaged for each side and then breaking off because of being separated and not wanting to push one's luck. Many were even inconclusive, since pilots would place first priority on survival and second on completing the mission objectives and not going off against every single target present in the area.

In fact, the "fight till the end" mentality of the IL2 AI was exactly what the majority of the offline fliers has been complaining about in the old series of sims.

Apart from their lack of evasive action when RTBing i actually prefer the new way of doing things, so i think that when it's fine tuned a bit it will be a keeper.

That being said, i know people might want to have some intense dogfight action once in a while and i'm all for extra options to suit as many people as possible. So, maybe it could be selectable under realism options to suit everyone.

well i should have added that i know that its not realistic what im asking for.and i appreciate the new way,the ai is supposed to behave.but when there are more than 60 enemy planes heading at me(a single plane), i expect at least a challenge to survive.normally it should be a fact of beeing dead in about 2minutes.
but with the new ai behaviour,after this beta patch(i think) i survive every time.
for two minutes some planes fight and then they fly in formation and ignoring me, even when i shoot one after the other down.thats boring.
