Yesterday, I managed to catch up to a pack of 109s who had shot down 3 Hurris over Hawkinge, me in the Spitfire Ia. There were 6 of them making a bee line back to France, with one trailing behind about 500m behind the main group. I took some shots at the tail-end charlie, and was surprised that not only did he go evasive, but the rest of the 109s reacted, jinking and turning back as if to see what was going on. I checked in FMB and they were on a waypoint with action = escort, so maybe that effects the AI behavior; otherwise it may have changed with the latest beta patch. I got the mission from campaign_de: 87 0816 Hawkindge Attack.mis is anyone is interested in checking it out.

this kind of behavior should not be offered as an option, but instead should be a (dynamic) behavioral property of AIs.
Ie, most of them should not stay and fight to the death (unless in exceptional situations, like in no way of escape, or not enough fuel to reach friendly frontline, and so on), as in real life, while some of them, as in real life too, should be proud and stubborn pilots who once engaged won't disengage (and will even disobey disengaging orders) until the enemy aircraft, or their own one, is fallen. |
