I tried running COD on a system with the following specs:
Core 2 @ 3.2GHz
4GB ram
9800 GT

With all settings set to low except model left at high the game was very playable only over water (35-50 fps). Once over land it turned into a slide show even with shadows turned off and settings at low.

Sorry for the late reply....it took some time to dig out the components from the archive

You will definitely need more RAM. This game is more CPU/RAM intensive than GPU. Running performance monitor I see my CPU running 50/75% with spikes of near 100% and my RAM is somewhere aroung 3.75GB useage.

With that said I run in the 30-50 fps range at 1680x1050 set to medium, aa off, vsync off, ssao off, shadows off, land shading/building detail/forest/ground detail all to low. I do have Nvidia console set to 4xAA and force Vsync on along with some other Anistropic settings set to override or enhance the launcher.exe.

If you can stand dropping your resolution some you will get much better performance than I currently do. I was running 1280x800 and had 50+ fps but did not like the way things looked.

When the latest retail patch came out I was able to increase my resolution and have stable and acceptable frames.
