I have NO inside info from this case, but I'd bet they were given a final hard date..either meet it or we move on and you move on with other projects.. they got out what they could and have been working their asses off to get it to where they want it to be.

My last info is that 1C/Maddox is an independent studio and UBI are the publishers for CoD. So, if they got pressured that hard by UBI, they should aim for making better contracts in the future.

As for the 5-6 years in development (plus about 5 months for the US release) issue... well, they've done a great job in the (non-optimized) graphics department, obviously, plus the sophisticated FM/DM. But that's about it. I just fail to see that long development time paying off in any way.
