I also have a 5870 card.
When i fire up the game, the game starts to the picture of the pilot and the maddox text (I deleted the ubi scene) and I can still see the bottom bar from windows (W7 - 64 bit).
I have to mouse click inside the picture area for the bottom bar to disappear and then I can tab esc twice to start the GUI. This does not look like full screen to me, although it is selected.

Maybe a 5870 problem.

I have to follow the same procedure with my 6970. I personally don't have a problem with it (Vista64 + ver 1.0014101). Hitting the ESC key twice is not necessary but skips the disclaimer faster.

@Bando

It's only the game portion that runs proper full screen. the gui portion looks to be done in wpf or some other .net framework. in pseudo full screen I believe the game is rendered to a buffer then stretched to fit a full size window.

I had significant stuttering issues with my old HD4870. I put a new HD6970 in and the stutters were gone.

I run it at true full screen mode on my 4890 1Gb.

Before the latest patch i could still get it to use the correct clock speeds by renaming the Ubi logo (since it would "confuse" the drivers and it got stuck at 500Mhz if the logo was displayed), but it seems that my fan speed and voltages weren't adjusted along with it and i would get reboots after 10 to 40 minutes of gameplay.

With the latest beta patch i set it to true full screen and everything is fixed, plus i get a smoother frame rate overall as well. I logged the GPU's parameters with GPU-z and even when under 100% load the temperatures are normal, plus it also automatically adjusts the voltage to give steady performance.

5970 here and works well in fullscreen... in psuedo mode it's like the previous patch for me ie no crossfire and tearing and stuttering like crazy.

Disabling the UBI logo thingy at the start (and turning off mirrors) gives me about, on average, 40FPS improvement. Still get some stuttering over London, but then I do have all my settings on high.

Cheers

Goanna
