edit: updated map and download link included

I have been working on a large-scale map of the English Channel for my own use but you are welcome to use it if you want. It's a 10752x9126 pixel PNG, weighs in at just over 90MB and was generated using some of the Cliffs of Dover game assets. Airfields and major urban areas are shown though the map is still a work-in-progress and additional airfields, towns and other landmarks will be added in future.

There are a handful of known issues e.g. in some cases text label placement and colours need to be tweaked for readability.

Really great map when finished. Thanks

There are a handful of known issues, including:
1. the western-most map tiles, including the Cherbourg peninsula, are not shown;
2. in some cases text label placement and colours need to be tweaked for readability;
3. airfields and urban areas in Normandy are not yet labeled.

Hi Mr Wooster,

I hope it's ok, but I threw together a quick 'deepzoom' render of this map, to make it easy to view on-line. It costs me a bit to host it, so not sure if I'll leave it up (or even if you are ok with it, let me know if any problem at all) but it's fun to play with.

Sure, fearlessfrog, feel free to use the map image however you want. That deepzoom tech is really impressive. You've given me some impetus to look into it for another project that's on the backburner, thanks.

I've fixed several known issues with the original map and have edited my previous post to include a new download link. The new version of the map now includes the western-most map tiles including the Cherbourg peninsula, has text labels for airfields and population centres in Normandy and has a few more town and landmark labels throughout.

The new link is: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N5TH44FT [edit: updated the download link to the final version of the map]

Would be extra nice if the runways were highlighted a different colour than the brown of the towns/roads.

Other than that nice work

Working on one. Its about 4900 x 4000 pixels. the idea to make one complete large map that can then serve as a common base to produce smaller more "desk friendly" versions.

Purple lines and digits are the RAF grid as depicted on the real world maps.

A close up of the map. The Black lines are the railways, these need to be hand drawn. I am yet to add the French rail system
