Default Difficulty

This game is super tough, which is one of the reasons why it's so good.

Default NO

If what you want is tough, you can modify any game to make it harder, by setting yourself goals and limits, deliberately not using resources or units, etc.

The opposite is not true. If the "Easy" setting of a game is insanely hard to the point of rage, to the point where the game was a total flop and is widely hated, then that's a problem that can't be overcome. It would have been simple to actually make the Easy setting playable.

Default Fan Support

I agree that a video game and its producers should not make a game too easy or hard because it will exclude a part of the potential fan base. A smart solution would just make more difficulty levels, ranging from "Relaxing" to "Insane." I'm a huge fan of the entire series, so I would recommend starting with Elven Legacy:Ranger, if you're willing to give the game another shot. Also, like most anything else, the more you practice, the better you get.
