How do I get the ‘Magic Orb’?

I got it from him right before he granted me passage into the building behind him. There were two conversation paths to take. I recall wanting to say one thing, but he didn't give it to me if I did, so I reloaded and took the other conversation path. I was worried that I'd never get if I didn't. Surely that's not the case though. Sorry I can't remember specifics. It's been a while.
