Most likely I did do something wrong. But the fact that the game doesn't really help you with anything annoys me.
For instance at the start of this last mission where I have to escort My friends Transports through a bunch of gates, if one dies I lose. anyway I had 4 Mercs with me, and my two guys in ships. As usual the dumb girl can't even last one pass with any fighter group she has lost aobut 10 fighters so far and that sucks. The guy well he does a little better but by the 4th little battle he died. Then of course I lose everyone that was helping me... So what happens the 3rd gate I get jumped by 4 groups of pirates. At that point I said screw this game and gave up. This is just to dam stupid. Glad I only payed 14.95 for this hunk of crap. I'm sure that I could win this if I decided To Save, load, load, load. But since every mission is like this its just too stupid. I could try one of the cheats that totally makes your ship badass. But what the hell is the point of that? If you have to cheat to win then the game is not balanced correctly. And being on easy I should not have to cheat to win. |

The problem with the game is that it automatically assumes you are familiar with the series and already know its ins and outs. If you do not, than yeah, it is going to punish you very harshly.
Personally, I have modded a few things to make it easier on myself, like increasing the experiance modifier to 1.2 (it is 0.35 on hard) in order to give my pilots the experiance necessary to get the skills to win the missions. Also, I highly recommend you put off doing the primary missions until after you get your Mastiff repainted in Elio. Once you get repainted in Elio, I recommend you wander about the galaxy and hit all the hidden caches, as well as look for places where NPCs fight eachother, let them fight it out, than loot the remains. You can get a lot of decent third generation equipment like Stronghold Shields, Squall Antimissile systems, and Avenger gattling guns which leaves you with only having to buy fighter chassis. Of course, there is one system where the NPC fights will actually net you free Usiel particle accellerators and Daga Laser cannons (Apparently traders are stupid enough to wander around systems infested with pirates), which are the best you can get for free, but you have to be able to fight the pirates that also roam the system. Pirates, are easy way, they have mostly craps weapons, if you have lasers or lastest kynetics guns, you can kill them very easy (small guns and rapid heavy guns have mostly 65 range, most of the lasers at least 80.
At this mission are only two problems. 1. in XT45 when transports will enter the system, from north will come two pirates. 2. in XT93 if you will come without Alex to portal to XT41 and you are not strong to clash with MFS troops. At hard i havent any problem to complete this mission ( 3 x Tiger - Terry with Polaris laser guns and Hero and Greyhar both with Yataghan kinetic guns. I can sympathise here. I'm currently stuck on the escort Alex mission. Astarti ( or whatever it's called mothership ) with polaris x2 & an inferno cannon, 3 3rd gen fighters with the good double barreled kinetics and I get wasted everytime. I agree with the OP about the mission layouts though, it just seems like someone forgot about anything else apart from outnumbering the player at least 3 to 1 and usually more like 5 to 1.
Also I have lost count of how many times my wingman ( who is supposed to stay with the wing leader ) goes walkabout and starts attacking a completely different target some miles away ( usually 4 or 5 in a group that of course waste her ) |

Ternie has perk for laser guns! I am using kinetics only at Greyhair`s ship. You need at least 300 clicks radar. Pirates are mostly weak, only dangerous are the pirates in XT93 (Bucher corvetes).
