In addition to assassinating Melnik, Strogov is also tasked by SMERSH with killing Richter. Trivia: Strogov cannot use his uniform, although MoT's box cover art depicts him wearing Gerd Richter's uniform, albeit without the glasses. His collar has a white border around the edges and his cap has a band on them, both of which were actually worn by junior officers (officers from the rank of Untersturmführer (2nd Lieutenant) up wear cords on their caps). It grew into the national army of the USSR. Since 1946, after the Second World War, it was called the Soviet Army. The 'Red Army' name refers to the traditional colour of the workers' movement. This represents, symbolically, the blood shed by the working class in its struggling against capitalism, and the belief that all people are equal. On 25 February 1946 (when Soviet national symbols replaced revolutionary national symbols), the Red Army was renamed the Soviet Army (Советская Армия, Sovetskaya Armiya). The captain's uniform can be identified by the four stars on their shoulder insignia. The crimson outline indicates they're infantry or mechanized infantry captains. The red outline indicates that he's an artillery or armored infantry colonel. Renegades' LUA file ensures that you can't use his uniform. Should that command be removed, it will register as a captain's uniform, so don't expect soldiers to start calling you "Tovarisch Polkovnik". Unnamed Soviet Defector ![]() Actor Name: Volkov Body Texture Name: volkov2_body.dds Head Texture Name: volkov2_head.dds Weapons: TT-33 Found in: Hotel Affiliations: Hotel Guests, British Intelligence Description: This Soviet defector has been supplying the British intelligence service with top-secret information through an unnamed diplomat. They're currently meeting at the Hotel Metropol, and Strogov is tasked by SMERSH to eliminate the traitor without the diplomat knowing and replace the traitor's documents with false ones. Trivia: This traitor is a second Volkov skin. You cannot use his clothes! Volkov ![]() Actor Name: Volkov Body Texture Name: volkov_body.dds Head Texture Name: volkov_head.dds Weapons: Colt M1911A1 Found in: Embassy Affiliations: Embassy Guest of Honor Description: Volkov is a Soviet agent who plans to defect to the British and hand over the Cambridge Five to them in return. Because of this, Strogov is tasked by SMERSH to eliminate Volkov. He occasionally heads over to the staff lounge and have a coffee, so maybe you could use that opportunity to your advantage... Trivia: Volkov may get his name from Konstantin Volkov, a real-life Soviet diplomat who was assassinated by a Soviet agent before he could defect to the British (though it happened at the British Embassy to Istanbul). By eliminating Volkov, Strogov would ensure that the Cambridge Five would not be known publicly for another couple of decades. Both the traitor in Hotel and Ivan Melnik in White Head are based on Volkov. You cannot use his clothes! He has information about the Soviet intelligence network in Paris, and is currently doing business with Standartenführer Gerd Richter at Chateau de Limothe. Strogov is tasked by SMERSH to assassinate both Melnik and Richter. Trivia: Melnik is a third Volkov skin. An early model of Melnik exists in MoT's files and is used in MoT's trailer, but in the final product, Volkov's model is reused for him (albeit with a new skin), possibly to make the name "Volkov" synonymous with Russian traitors. Nikolayev ![]() Actor Name: OtstupNikolaev Body Texture Name: nikolaev_body1.dds, nikolaev_body2.dds Head Texture Name: nikolaev_head.dds Weapons: TT-33 Found in: Renegades Affiliations: Maksimovka Saboteurs Description: Sergei Kotlyarov, aka Nikolayev, is a Moscow-born radio operator. At one point, he was captured by the Germans and persuaded to work as a saboteur for German intelligence to undermine the Soviet war effort. Strogov is tasked by SMERSH with capturing Nikolayev and two other saboteurs, Shestakov and Starikov, without any of their associates knowing and prevent any sabotage attempts. Strogov is also ordered to kill Nikolayev if capturing seems impossible. Trivia: Both Nikolayev and Shestakov are the only NPCs in the DtS games who carry backpacks, but you can't take them off their bodies, because they're actually a mesh. A "Kotlyarov" is mentioned in the VCH briefing for Polish Surprise - whether this is Nikolayev or not is unknown. An unused body texture, "nikolaev_body1.dds" is in MoT's files. Strogov is tasked by SMERSH with capturing Shestakov and two other saboteurs, Nikolayev and Starikov, without any of their associates knowing and prevent any sabotage attempts. Strogov is also ordered to kill Shestakov if capturing seems impossible. At one point, he was captured by the Germans and persuaded to work as a saboteur for German intelligence to undermine the Soviet war effort. Strogov is tasked by SMERSH with capturing Starikov and two other saboteurs, Nikolayev and Shestakov, without any of their associates knowing and prevent any sabotage attempts. Strogov is ordered specifically to leave Starikov alive, since he's the leader of the group. Trivia: Starikov is said to have a submarine-shaped tatoo on his chest and another one on his arm, but you won't see them since you can't use his uniform. If you fail to follow the two soldiers to the train bridge, Starikov has the sabotage plans on his body. Picking them up will mark the dynamite on your map. Strogov is tasked by SMERSH to steal the briefcase before the OSS agents leave the park with it, making sure Hudson stays alive. Trivia: Oddly, their insignia signifies they're from SAS.
